AkzoNobel Art Foundation 'Now/Forever'

The AkzoNobel Art Foundation was invited by Art Rotterdam to make an exhibition entitled Now/Forever and commissioned Tom Postma Design to create the spatial design.

“The starting point was to create a central point at the fair where artworks from different galleries are placed side by side and engage with each other, as an encouraging example of how you can build up a collection that is able to hold its value for the future,” according to Hester Alberdingk Thijm, director AkzoNobel Art Foundation.

On this basis, Tom Postma Design created the spatial design Plinth. A singular gesture in space that lifts both visitors and artworks to the same level, highlighting the importance of both the viewer and the viewed.

The design consists of an oversized plinth with space for both visitors and artworks. The stairs either side of the walk-way create a social space for visitors to sit, contemplate and enjoy the fair. Multi-level plinth spaces provide multiple display and viewing opportunities for artists.

Leading criteria in the selection shown in Now/Forever are topicality (Now) and sustainability (Forever).

Now/Forever can be visited at Art Rotterdam, the Van Nelle Fabriek in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, from 7 - 10 February 2019.
